Stephen McKenney joined Hyman Lippitt, P.C. as an Associate in September 2003.
Mr. McKenney concentrates his practice in civil litigation with a particular focus on complex commercial litigation (i.e., complex contractual disputes; inter-business disputes and partnership disputes), employment litigation and probate and trust litigation. Mr. McKenney has represented several clients as lead counsel in state court trials and in arbitration proceedings. Mr. McKenney also has litigated family law issues. Mr. McKenney has argued successfully on behalf of his clients in the Michigan Court of Appeals and he has earned relief for clients from the Michigan Supreme Court.
Mr. McKenney is admitted to practice before the Michigan state courts; the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan; the United States Bankruptcy Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan; and the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. McKenney served as law clerk to the Honorable James C. Cacheris, Senior United States District Judge for the Eastern District of Virginia, in Alexandria, Virginia.
Mr. McKenney earned his Bachelor's Degree in Economics, summa cum laude, from John Carroll University in Cleveland, Ohio. While earning his Juris Doctorate, magna cum laude, from Michigan State University College of Law, Mr. McKenney was a Dean Charles H. King Fellow. In addition, Mr. McKenney served on several award-winning moot court teams and was an Associate with the Journal of International Law.
