Mr. McCarthy is a shareholder in the firm's Litigation Department. He concentrates his practice in commercial litigation and has experience representing businesses and individuals in proceedings before both the trial and appellate courts. He also has experience in mediation, arbitration and facilitation.
Before joining Hyman Lippitt, P.C., Mr. McCarthy served as a law clerk to the Honorable Justice Marilyn Kelly, Michigan Supreme Court, 1999 through 2000, and also served as an adjunct professor of law at the Thomas M. Cooley Law School.
Mr. McCarthy graduated with a B.B.A. in Marketing from Western Connecticut State University in 1993 and earned his Juris Doctorate, cum laude , from the Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 1999. As a law student, Mr. McCarthy was an honors scholar and served as Managing Editor of the Thomas M. Cooley Law Review. He received various academic acknowledgements, including American Jurisprudence awards in both Contracts and Legal Research and Writing. He also received the honor of being named the winner of the Distinguished Student Award in 1999.
Mr. McCarthy is a member of various bar associations, including the State Bar of Michigan, the American Bar Association, the Oakland County Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America.
