Joseph Pia is a partner and the head of the firm's Tax and Estate Planning Department. He has extensive experience in tax structuring, probate and estate planning and is an expert at structuring transactions and ventures for corporate clients. He also counsels clients on tax matters, including tax appeals, acquisitions, and he has provided tax opinions for various commercial transactions.
Mr. Pia obtained an L.L.M. in Taxation from New York University and he received his J.D., cum laude,
from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law where he served as Editor in Chief of the University of Detroit Mercy Law Review. Mr. Pia received his B.S., summa cum laude
, in Accounting from the University of Detroit.
Mr. Pia is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law where he teaches International Tax, Partnership Tax and Estate and Gift Tax classes.
Mr. Pia is a member of Oakland County Bar Association (Section on Taxation). He is also a member of the American Bar Association (Section on Taxation) and the State Bar of Michigan (Taxation, and Probate and Estate Planning Sections).
